Paradox has announced the first Immersion Pack from Expansion Pass 2 for Victoria 3, titled National Awakening. The DLC arrives September 23 alongside the free 1.10 update, priced at €9.99 for those not owning the pass.
As the name implies, National Awakening zooms in on the age of rising nationalism, particularly within the Austrian Empire and the Balkans. Expect to grapple with collapsing empires, resurgent identities, and more dynamic nationalist playthroughs.
In Austria’s case, players will be making decisions on the fate of Hungary and the broader imperial structure. Meanwhile, in the Balkans, minor nations like Serbia, Bulgaria, and Montenegro are placed in the spotlight as they seek independence or aim to form a unified South Slavic state—often against the interests of the surrounding imperial giants.
The pack also brings enhancements to the nationalism mechanics, aimed at making gameplay in the region more reactive and turbulent. If you enjoy the chaos of fading empires and rising nations, this DLC is shaping up to offer just that.
A series of developer diaries will roll out in the lead-up to release, starting next week. These will include a deeper dive into new systems such as Cultural Fervour and the reworked Culture and Religion traits, led by Narrative Design Lead Victoria.
Also mentioned is a final patch for the current 1.9 cycle. Update 1.9.8 is set to launch next week with bugfixes and smaller quality-of-life tweaks.
National Awakening is included in Expansion Pass 2, but is also available standalone. Wishlist it on Steam.
