The developers behind Veil of Ashes have dropped a brand-new gameplay trailer showing off their real-time tactics title set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world—and it’s looking gritty, explosive, and packed with metal monstrosities.
In Veil of Ashes, players take command of squads of infantry, tanks, and colossal behemoths across destructible battlefields in a fight for dwindling land and power. The game supports both single-player and multiplayer skirmishes, including PvE and PvP up to 4v4. Core to the experience is seizing and holding strategic points to earn Reinforcement Points—used to call in war machines, tactical strikes, and support abilities.
Before and during a match, you’ll build your army by selecting from various companies, giving you flexibility in unit composition and tactics. With three distinct factions offering unique unit types and playstyles, strategy hinges on adaptation.
The factions include:
- The Sacrum Imperium – A theocratic war machine, led by the Novissima Ecclesia, bringing overwhelming firepower and “Cataphractus” super-heavy tanks. Think divine fury with industrial horsepower.
- The Lohenreich – A crumbling feudal empire from Central Europe. These knights ride into battle in “Lanzierer” tanks, supported by steadfast “Panzerknecht” infantry. Honour-bound and heavily armoured.
- The Communes – Revolutionary forces with fast “Force Rapide” vehicles and waves of volunteers and conscripts. What they lack in armor, they make up for in numbers and speed.
The setting is grim: in 1704, a world-shattering inferno wiped out countless empires—but left behind Cinium, a powerful white ash-like material that fuels steam-powered technology. Two centuries later, a new industrialized world fights over what’s left, as ember storms rage and the environment dies.
With high-quality visuals, a fully destructible and immersive battlefield, and a unique blend of steampunk and military grit, Veil of Ashes looks ready to carve out its space in the RTS scene.
No release date yet, but the trailer makes it clear: war never looked this smokestack-chic. Wishlist on Steam.
