Relic Entertainment has released a new video featuring original developers reflecting on Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and their return to create the upcoming Definitive Edition. The video offers behind-the-scenes commentary along with new gameplay footage from the remastered release, which arrives on August 14.
Dawn of War – Definitive Edition compiles the full RTS experience, including all nine factions and four campaigns from the original game and its expansions. This version is designed to be the most complete edition yet, delivering the full scope of the classic 40K battlefield mayhem in one package.
Here’s what’s packed into the Definitive Edition:
Nine Playable Factions
- Space Marines: Orbital strikes and Bolter-wielding fury in the Emperor’s name
- Orks: All-out aggression and sheer numbers
- Eldar: Hit-and-run tactics with alien elegance
- Chaos: A mix of corrupted Space Marines and demonic power
- Imperial Guard: Tanks, trenches, and overwhelming firepower
- Tau: Mechs, Kroot, and high-tech devastation
- Necrons: Slow but deadly reanimating machines
- Dark Eldar: Fast raids and sadistic flair
- Sisters of Battle: Flame, faith, and furious zeal
Four Campaigns
- Dawn of War: Blood Ravens vs. Chaos on Tartarus
- Winter Assault: Imperial Guard/Eldar vs. Orks/Chaos over a fallen Titan
- Dark Crusade: A non-linear planetary campaign featuring seven factions
- Soulstorm: Another non-linear war, now with all nine factions battling across the Kaurava System
Multiplayer
Up to 8 players can go head-to-head or team up, with multiple modes and map options available.
The Definitive Edition will release at $30 USD, but players who already own the Anniversary Edition will get a 30% discount at launch. No word yet on specific technical upgrades or mod support, but the focus here is clearly on packaging the full Dawn of War experience in one definitive format.
August 14 is the date. The Emperor (and Gork and Mork and Khaine and the Machine God) will be watching.
