The Riftbreaker has just rolled out its biggest update yet. Update 2.0 is now live on Steam, Epic Store, and GOG, adding online co-op for up to four players alongside a raft of new systems, creatures, and story content.
Exor Studios says the update delivers what fans have been asking for: full multiplayer integration across both the Story Campaign and Survival Mode. Up to four players can now explore Galatea 37 together, gathering resources, building bases, and blasting alien swarms in sync. Even the Prologue mission has been adapted for multiplayer.
Expanded Endgame
Beyond co-op, Update 2.0 expands the campaign with a new post-story arc centered on massive Megastructures. These specialized buildings push logistics and economy systems to the limit, requiring heavy upkeep but granting major passive boosts. Completing them unlocks a new ending to the campaign, with over 40 minutes of additional voiced dialogue from Francesca Meaux and Ryan Laughton, reprising their roles as Ashley and Mr. Riggs.
New Threats
The update introduces Omega-Strain Creatures, tougher, more destructive versions of existing species. These enemies arrive in different elemental variants and carry new abilities, forcing players to diversify their arsenal. Defeating them yields stronger rewards, making them both threat and opportunity.
More Systems, More Variety
Other major features include:
- Randomized Mission Generator – Once main missions in a biome are cleared, players can seek new planetary locations for treasure, anomalies, or additional resource outposts.
- Loot System Rework – Weapons, mech upgrades, and items can now drop from enemies or be found in caches. Some loot may exceed current research levels, with the option to disassemble unwanted gear for resources.
- Balance Adjustments – Campaign difficulty modes have been retuned. Easy is more forgiving, while Hard and Brutal ramp up the challenge. Players can also customize difficulty parameters.
- Weapon Overhaul – Entire arsenal rebalanced, with significant upgrades to weaker weapons and adjustments to functional mechanics like the Root Gun and Laser. Weapon mods were also refined for more impact.
- Research Rework – Campaign research now costs both time and resources, shifting how players plan their progression.
- Quality-of-Life Tools – Mass item disassembly, research search bar, and quick teleports in multiplayer.
- Performance Gains – A reworked engine allows smoother performance with larger bases and bigger hordes.
