Shiro Games has revealed The Fief, the next DLC for Wartales, launching this September. Closed beta sign-ups are now open for those looking to get an early taste of feudal power struggles, strategic governance, and the joy of making sure your peasants don’t starve.
Unlike the base game’s focus on mercenary life and tactical skirmishes, The Fief puts players in charge of a domain. That means building it up from the ground—literally. You’ll be constructing buildings, producing goods, managing trade, and ensuring your population is well-fed, safe, and somewhat loyal.

The expansion introduces district-based territory management. Time passes with each rest, pushing forward construction and growing the needs of your people. Buildings aren’t just for show—markets, taverns, training grounds, and farms all impact your population’s happiness and wellbeing. Mismanage it, and expect more than a few grumbles.
But managing people isn’t just about meeting needs. Your subjects have influence, and as your fief grows, so does the complexity of its politics. Different groups will rise, each with their own values, needs, and agendas, directly affecting how your realm develops.
You’ll also have to choose your governing style. Will you rule through might, profit, cunning, or virtue? Your laws, mandates, and policies will shape the culture and alignment of your fiefdom. Want to be a benevolent ruler building monuments to learning and justice? Go for it. Prefer tyranny and control? That’s also on the table.
Every building you raise, every law you enact, every person you welcome—these decisions carve the path of your fief. Monuments can be raised in honor of knowledge, military prowess, or economic supremacy. But with each step up the ladder of power, consequences follow. Your throne room, your rules, and your subjects all mirror the kind of ruler you become.
The Fief is shaping up to add a layer of kingdom management on top of Wartales’ usual mercenary affairs. The DLC drops in September. Wishlist on Steam.
