If you’ve been holding out on Marvel’s Midnight Suns, now’s the time to pull the trigger. Firaxis’ superhero strategy game is currently 85% off on Steam.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns combines tactical turn-based combat with card mechanics and a social RPG layer, all wrapped in spandex. It’s developed by the same folks behind XCOM, but don’t expect permadeath and overwatch traps here. Instead, you’ll deploy squads of Marvel heroes, draw ability cards, and punch demons into the stratosphere with flashy combos.
You play as The Hunter, a fully customizable original Marvel character. You can tweak your look, choose your dialogue responses, and pick your team of Avengers, X-Men, or Runaways for each mission. The plot puts you in the middle of a battle against Lilith—your mother, no less—and her demonic horde.
Outside of combat, the game opens up with The Abbey, a mystical HQ where you can explore, upgrade abilities, and build relationships with Marvel legends. Yes, you can go for a walk with Blade, or debate philosophy with Doctor Strange. It’s not quite the Mass Effect of superhero games, but it’s closer than you’d think.
Combat-wise, this isn’t your typical deck-builder. You draw and play cards based on your squad’s abilities, positioning matters, and the environment plays a key role in dishing out damage. Think more Into the Breach than Hearthstone, with plenty of superhero flair.
With the massive discount, the current price is hard to ignore. Whether you missed it at launch or bounced off the idea of cards in your Marvel, now might be a good time to give it a shot—especially if you’re a fan of Firaxis’ past work or just want to see Ghost Rider high-five Iron Man between battles.
