Pioneers of Pagonia, the medieval-fantasy city builder from Envision Entertainment, will leave Early Access and officially launch on December 11, 2025 on Steam for PC. The announcement comes with a new story trailer and confirmation that the game will be playable at Gamescom’s Indie Arena Booth in Hall 10.2, where fans can also meet members of the development team.
The full release will feature a 30-hour story campaign, playable solo or in shared co-op with up to four players. Players will step into a shattered continent blanketed by fog, where dangers range from economic obstacles to supernatural threats like werewolves, ghosts, and the ominous Malthorns. The campaign tasks players with uniting scattered islands and their people, facing off against rival leaders, and restoring the fractured world of Pagonia. German fantasy author Janika Hoffmann contributed to the story and dialogues, working alongside the developers to weave the campaign into the established lore.
Ahead of launch, a public beta for the map editor is planned. This tool will let players design their own islands with extensive customization options—from terrain and resources to enemies, tasks, and hidden treasures. Community maps can then be shared, browsed, and played directly in-game, complete with filters to find content that matches individual preferences.
For those who don’t want to wait until December, Pioneers of Pagonia is currently available in Early Access at a 25% discount. The game recently received its “Major Economy Update,” which reworks village-building mechanics by starting players with only a handful of settlers and no supplies. A revised tutorial map has also been added, making the onboarding process smoother while showcasing the new economic systems.
Development of the game has been financially supported by the German games fund grant from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. Check it out on Steam.
