Indie studio Software Verde has announced the release date for its debut title, Mordfield Command, a survival-focused 4X strategy game where humanity fights to reclaim Earth from an AI overlord. The game will launch on October 23, 2025, with a free demo available now on Steam.
Humanity vs. Algorithm Alpha
The story sets players against Algorithm Alpha, an artificial intelligence that has turned on its creators. As one of humanity’s last commanders, the goal is to build a stronghold, rally an army, and push back against waves of machine forces to retake the planet.
Survival Meets 4X Strategy
Mordfield Command mixes 4X strategy with turn-based combat and wave-defense mechanics. Players construct fortified bases, manage limited resources, and expand through satellite cities and upgrades. The AI enemy adapts with every wave, requiring constant tactical shifts and decisive counterattacks.
Key Gameplay Features
- Action Point Economy – Players must carefully allocate action points each turn, making trade-offs between building, combat, and expansion.
- Procedural Map Generation – Every match is unique, with unpredictable battlefields to adapt to.
- Optional Timed Rounds – Enable 15- or 30-second turns for added pressure in decision-making.
- Custom Map Editor – Create and share maps, set missions, and experiment with PvP strategies.
- Evolving Terrain – Combat alters the battlefield, with damaged areas affecting movement and tactics.
- PvP & Co-op – Face a friend in competitive battles or survive together against Algorithm Alpha.
Demo Details
The Steam demo is available now, though it comes with limitations: a 75-round turn cap and restricted resources. Modes such as PvP, full campaign, operations, and the complete tech tree will unlock in the full release this October.
