MicroProse has announced it will publish Archrebel Tactics, a turn-based sci-fi strategy game set on the hostile colony world of Kaprical. Drawing influence from classics like Rebelstar (1986) and UFO: Enemy Unknown, the game revives grid-based, action-point-driven combat while adding modern twists in pacing, customization, and campaign structure.
Players take control of a ragtag resistance fighting against a shadowy totalitarian regime, making strategic decisions that determine the planet’s fate. Battles unfold across destructible environments, with not only enemy forces to contend with, but also the dangerous alien wildlife — from massive native beasts to an unidentified new threat.
Key features include:
- Classic Turn-Based Combat: Action-point system with multi-selection and expanded tactical options.
- Travel Mode: Units can cover more ground in a single turn, speeding up larger maps.
- Branching Campaign: Choose missions in any order, with consequences that persist and three factions to align with for unique advantages.
- Unit Growth: Recruit and upgrade troops, capture droids, and customize loadouts and progression paths.
- Procedural Variety: Partially procedural missions, a standalone mission generator, and a mission editor.
- Environmental Destruction: Most terrain can be destroyed, opening new tactical possibilities.
- Retro Look, Modern Systems: Pixel art with bone-based animation, particle effects, and shaders.
With MicroProse on board as publisher, Archrebel Tactics is set for a wider release and polish ahead of launch. The game is available to wishlist now on Steam.
