Fool King, a new strategy roguelite autobattler from developer Loot Donkey, puts a chaotic spin on army building by turning dice into literal soldiers. Each face of your die determines how many knights, peasants, wizards, or crossbowmen you summon to the field. Roll well, or die trying.
Here’s how it works: pick three dice tied to unit types, roll them, optionally re-roll a few, then drag-and-drop your tiny army onto the battlefield. Hit “fight,” sit back, and let the auto-combat play out. You can scream “CHARGE” at your screen if it helps. The game won’t stop you.
Victory or defeat earns you coins, which you can spend on unit upgrades. Add passive buffs (poison bolts, electric armor), customize die faces, or buy entirely new dice to deploy more formations. Each run asks you to choose between stronger troops or a bigger army. Strategy 101.
The autobattling system isn’t complex yet — don’t expect Mechabellum-level tactics — but it’s early days. There’s no release date yet, just a downloadable prototype available now on Itch.io.
What stands out most is the asynchronous multiplayer. Fool King records your ghost data and decisions, meaning you could be matched against another player’s run — or even your own. Yes, you may end up fighting a past version of yourself. Perfect for anyone who’s ever thought, “I could totally beat the old me.”
Fool King might not be ready for coronation just yet, but this dice-rolling, ghost-fighting concept is one to keep an eye on. Or two. Just don’t trust your past self.
