Era One has officially entered Early Access. Developed by Team Complex LTD, the space-themed RTS blends large-scale fleet battles with heavy customisation, modular construction, and a layered narrative backdrop spanning centuries of human colonisation, collapse, and cosmic ambition.
Set in a post-Earth future, the story centres around Alya De Shars, a character attempting to reboot civilisation following a series of catastrophic events—including interstellar corporate warfare, mutated biominers, and a failed hyperspace migration plan. The lore weaves together space piracy, political decay, and last-ditch salvation attempts, setting the scene for the game’s broader strategy gameplay.
Mechanically, Era One revolves around full modular construction. Players can build massive space bases and cities from the ground up using an assembly module system—there’s no fixed size or shape limit. Managing these installations involves balancing energy sources, raw materials, and workforce allocation, with upgrades and technological advancements unlocking over time.
On the defense front, players can fortify their structures with traps, turrets, and other protective measures. Strategic placement and regular upgrades are key, as threats loom both in narrative and gameplay.
Starship design follows the same custom philosophy. Ships are built from modular components—everything from engines and weapons to cargo bays and scanners can be swapped, upgraded, and tailored to suit the player’s playstyle. Aesthetic customisation is also extensive, with hull design, paint jobs, and visuals available for players who care as much about looks as firepower.
While the combat is real-time, much of Era One’s appeal seems to lie in planning, constructing, and adapting. With modular mechanics driving both ships and stations, and a lore-heavy backdrop fuelling the campaign, Team Complex is aiming to give players creative control across all fronts.
The developers have also highlighted a custom soundtrack by composer Alberto Selvaggi, built to match the emotional tone of the lore. It’s intended to add a cinematic layer to the story of survival and rebirth in the stars. Also the early access is a true early access with many parts of the game unfinished, so take note of that. Check it out on Steam.
