Stardock and Oxide Games have officially announced Ashes of the Singularity II, the sequel to the 2016 large-scale RTS that was all about pushing hardware limits and swarming the map with units. The game is slated for a 2026 release—timed neatly for the 10th anniversary of the original.
The sequel picks up where the first left off, escalating the conflict between post-humans, AI, and now, finally, regular humans. Players will command the United Earth Forces, a new faction formed by a global alliance of NATO, China, and Russia. Their goal? Reclaim Earth’s lost territories and strategic positions across the solar system from the AI-led Substrate and Post-Human Coalition (PHC).
The original game was known for its groundbreaking multi-core engine that could handle thousands of units on continental-scale maps. This time, Oxide is going bigger. A larger dev team means more advanced units, deeper base-building, and smarter enemy AI. There’s also a new campaign set in the year 2031 that promises to dig into humanity’s comeback in a world ruled by machines.
For those who’ve been asking for more traditional factions, this sequel delivers. “The number one request was to have a human faction,” said Stardock CEO Brad Wardell. “Back then, we just couldn’t support having thousands of organic, walking, squishy people in the world.” With tech catching up, human boots are finally on the ground.
Alongside the single-player campaign, the game will feature both cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
Developed by Oxide Games—known for their engine tech—and published by Stardock, of Sins of a Solar Empire fame, Ashes of the Singularity II looks set to revisit its roots while scaling even bigger. We’ll see if the humans can hold their own in 2026. Wishlist on Steam.
