Ubisoft has revealed new details for Anno 117: Pax Romana, including the misty province of Albion and confirmation of a free demo coming soon. The latest entry in the long-running city-building series launches November 13 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Free Demo – September 2–16
Players will get their first hands-on with Anno 117 when a free PC demo goes live from September 2 to September 16. The demo lets governors choose a starting province—Latium, the Roman heartland, or the untamed frontier of Albion. Each playthrough offers different approaches and outcomes, with the demo replayable to try both provinces and multiple strategies.
Life in Latium vs. Albion
Latium, home to Rome itself, represents the fully Romanized experience: familiar gods, established infrastructure, and a focus on the empire’s traditional military and civic structures.
Albion, on the other hand, introduces something new to the Anno formula. The Celtic province allows players to decide whether to enforce Romanization or preserve Celtic traditions. This choice shapes religion, technology, and overall development paths.
Gods, Traditions, and Discoveries
Religious worship plays a defining role in both provinces. Roman territories can dedicate cities to deities like Mars, Neptune, or Venus, each providing unique bonuses. Expansion into Albion adds access to Celtic gods such as Epona, Mercury-Lugus, and Cernunnos, granting alternative modifiers and stat boosts. This creates room for tailored strategies—pledging a city to Mars strengthens military output, while honoring Epona boosts animal farming and transport speeds.
Albion also opens new entries in the Discovery Tree, which features over 150 civic, economic, and military upgrades. Governors can choose between adopting Roman innovations like marsh drainage to expand agriculture or maintaining Celtic practices that preserve the land’s natural conditions. Each decision shifts how settlements evolve and how resources are managed.
