UPDATED: New gameplay trailer out for the upcoming eastern themed DLC.
World’s Edge has announced a new expansion for Age of Empires IV, titled Dynasties of the East, set to release on November 4, 2025. Revealed during Gamescom 2025, the expansion introduces four variant civilizations, new maps and biomes, and an all-new roguelite-style singleplayer mode. Pre-orders are now live on Steam with a 15% discount.
Four Variant Civilizations
The expansion adds fresh strategic options through four unique variant civilizations:
- Golden Horde – a powerhouse faction built on mobility and conquest.
- Macedonian Dynasty – centered on ambition and battlefield dominance.
- Sengoku Daimyo – tactical specialists with unique military approaches.
- Tughlaq Dynasty – versatile and adaptive, offering multiple playstyles.
Each civilization features its own tech tree, units, and strategies, further expanding the game’s roster of playable factions.
New Maps and Biomes
Dynasties of the East also brings eight new maps and six biomes, including Greek Islands, Alpine Spring, Black Sand Beach, and more. These additions range from tightly competitive arenas to open, experimental battlegrounds, widening the scope of both multiplayer and custom matches.

The Crucible Mode
In addition to traditional RTS gameplay, the expansion debuts The Crucible, a roguelite singleplayer mode designed for replayability. Players will face randomized objectives, unpredictable enemy waves, and unlockable upgrades. Whether defending a Wonder or chasing powerful perks, no two runs will be the same.
With new factions, expanded battlegrounds, and a roguelite twist, Dynasties of the East marks the next major chapter for Age of Empires IV. Wishlist on Steam.
