Tempest Rising has rolled out its Triple Threat Update, adding a slate of requested features and new ways to play. Published by Saber Interactive’s 3D Realms label and Knights Peak, in partnership with developer Slipgate Ironworks, the update focuses on bigger battles, pace control, and easier experimentation—based on player feedback.
Here’s what’s new:
- 3v3 (six-player) matches for large-scale multiplayer battles.
- Pause and Game Speed Adjustment Tool in singleplayer modes, letting players dial the action up or down.
- “No Bot” Sandbox functionality to freely test Tempest Rising units, buildings, and factions.
- A new Kyoto-based map.
- Full spectator mode for watching matches from the sidelines.
Set in an alternate 1997 where the Cuban Missile Crisis went nuclear, Tempest Rising blends classic base building with fast, hard-hitting RTS combat. The game features two single-player campaigns, ranked multiplayer, and skirmish options, with unique asymmetrical factions designed to push different playstyles. The new tools—particularly pause/speed control and the No-Bot Sandbox—aim to make that sandbox easier to learn and lab, while 3v3 expands the ceiling for bigger team play and the spectator mode supports watchability.
The Triple Threat Update lands alongside a fresh Kyoto map, adding a distinct battleground to the rotation. Spectators can now follow the action in full, useful for community events and match reviews.
Tempest Rising is available in Standard and Deluxe Editions on Steam.
